Meeting with the SisAl Pilot project

On Tuesday, our project coordinator, Páll Árnason, presented the REVEAL project at a meeting with the SisAl Pilot project.

The SisAl Pilot, a 4-year initiative funded by Horizon 2020, is making strides in transforming the production of silicon (Si), a critical raw material. The project introduces a patented industrial process, shifting away from the carbon-intensive Submerged Arc Furnace (SAF) to a more sustainable alternative. The innovative aluminothermic reduction of quartz in slag utilizes secondary raw materials such as aluminium (Al) EoL scrap and dross. This not only addresses environmental concerns but also presents an economically viable alternative to current practices.
